The enormous amount of traffic fatalities happening day by day are the driver to develop a solution manual on how to minimise traffic fatalities to zero. Everyone is object of and confronted with the issue of road safety. We have a vision to shift our cities and roads to safer places by defining how to reach these goals. We believe that a fundamental change in the road safety system is necessary and by no means utopian, but undoubtedly a major challenge for all city dwellers.
Call for Action: Pushing policy makers and system designers to investigate in mobility and traffic safety.
Raising Awareness: Bringing the topic of road safety to the political and public agenda.
Making the Vision a Mission: Zero traffic deaths in cities like Berlin.
Finding Solutions: Evolving simple rules for safe road infrastructures in cities.
To understand road safety in general, an overview of its development at global, national as well as a local perspective is given. Referring to accident data, laws and socio-political events in the field of road safety, an emphasis is put on Berlin. In order to find solutions for a zero-fatality traffic system, a closer look is taken at best practices of two different European cities. By analysing the indicators of a well-functioning road safety system, solutions such as terms and regulations are conclusively presented by defining Mission Zero.
